UNIT 1 reflections

Unit 1: Developing Materials and Copyright

This UNIT  was an eye opening to me regarding copyright rules  in Canada and how it is important  to know them  when using  materials  created by  others  for your classroom.

I  still a bit nervous about applying  Fair Use  right properly.

After I finished this Unit I know how to:

- determine whether a given use of a selected copyrighted resource is fair dealing;
- differentiate between public domain and Creative Commons (CC) licensing; and
- consider whether you should include your work in public domain or get a CC license.

I have got many useful resources  about  creative  commons, fair use and copyright materials. Some  of them are listed below.

- Kimmons, R. "Copyright and Open Licensing."

- Noel, W., & Snel, J. (2016). Copyright Matters!: Some Key Issues Questions & Answers for Teachers.

- Basics FAQ. Copyright at UBC, University of British Columbia. Retrieved from http://copyright.ubc.ca/guidelines-and-resources/faq/basics/
- The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). Fair Dealing Decision Tool.

- What is fair dealing and how does it relate to copyright? Simon Fraser University. Retrieved from http://www.lib.sfu.ca/help/academic-integrity/copyright/fair-dealing

I like this explanation video on Creative Commons  and Copyright:
